One Liner:

A co-op lifeguarding game about rescuing drowning swimmers at a beach to become rich and famous.

Abstract:

Boast Guards is a cooperative lifeguarding video game. It is designed to be a fun, lighthearted, and accessible party game for a wide range of ages and skill levels. It is also a roguelike game, a popular genre in which progress is lost when players complete or fail a play session. Starworks Studios is developing the game in Unity to release it on Steam in 2025. Players form a team of lifeguards at a chaotic beach to rescue drowning swimmers and become famous. They earn upgrades to help deal with various beach hazards over the course of an in-game week.

Description:

Boast Guards is a multiplayer video game about lifeguarding. Teams of up to four players cooperate to manage the visitors of a chaotic beach in a world of monsters. A typical play session lasts about 10-25 minutes, in which players begin working at a beach, rescue drowning swimmers, and earn various upgrades. By the end of an in-game week, players either succeed in managing their beach or fail to earn enough fame for themselves. In either case, they may then start another playthrough at a new beach. Swimmer NPCs enter the beach during the day time, and may relax on the sand or go for a swim in the ocean. Swimmers that stay in the water too long will begin to drown. Players may rescue these swimmers by dragging them to shore to earn fame points. Fame points may be earned by completing various other tasks as well. At the end of every in-game day, fame points are converted into bucks that players spend at the shop to earn gear and pins. There are three different kinds of gear available; Whistles, Flippers, and Life Rings. Each piece of gear grants a special ability. Additionally, players may earn pins, which serve as persistent passive upgrades. Players make choices about which gear and pins they acquire so that they can specialize in certain tasks on their lifeguarding team.
