Lockheed Martin Bill of Materials Explorer
Project Overview
One Liner: "From bolts to rotors, we're on a mission to make BOMs less of a beast and more of a breeze!"
A bill of materials (BOM) is an extensive list of raw materials, components, and instructions required to construct, manufacture, or repair a product or service. BOMs are a pivotal document in the design and documentation stage of the engineering product life cycle. As it is Lockheed Martin RMS is looking to sponsor a team to tackle a specific gap in capability relating to exploring and comparing numerous and extensive BOMs.
As an industry leader in engineering and aerospace we deal with countless BOMs and we are looking for a solution to compare and explore BOMs, specifically in a hierarchical sense. As an example, a helicopter itself will have a general BOM but each major component part such as the gearbox or the rotor assembly will also have a BOM, but these parts have a parent-child relationship just as their BOMs will. This project will help fill a capability need in the industry as it pertains to BOM exploration specifically with a hierarchical structure. This tool will help engineers across disciplines streamline engineering management whether the product is a heavy-lift helicopter or a software suite.
We are sponsoring a team to develop an application that will allow for us to compare and explore BOMs while maintaining this parent-child structure specifically using GraphDB. This project will entail creating a dynamic web-based front end interface that plugs into a Neo4J GraphDB that feeds from a variety of existing data sources.
The tech-stack will include: Neo4J GraphDB, JavaScript React and Express, and Docker. This project will also require knowledge in ETL processes and database administration
