Listening with Caution

This research paper explores user data collection practices in music streaming platforms, with a specific focus on Spotify. An online survey was created and conducted to gather public opinions on Spotify’s performance and to understand user data practices. Despite various opinions on various aspects of the platform, a common finding was the general lack of concern among users regarding data collection and past data mishandling. This paper highlights the importance of data protection and calls on Spotify and other music streaming services to prioritize safeguarding user information and to increase awareness of their data collection practices. Based on results and research, recommendations were then specified for enhancing user data security and transparency.
