Project Overview

One Liner: Programming a custom Gameboy Color Emulator can play GB/GBC ROMs

Abstract

This project showcases the learning efforts of students in emulating retro video games. The emulator will be developed to play Game Boy and Game Boy Color games directly on Windows. Students will implement the application in C/C++, handling emulation, input, and graphics through libraries like GLFW, OpenGL, and SDL. Development involves accurately replicating low-level hardware components like a custom Sharp SM83 CPU core, memory mapping units, and the pixel processing pipeline. Throughout the process, students will bridge the gap between high-level application development and low-level hardware architecture to bring games from the past back to life.
