Project Overview

One Liner: Implementing a secure messaging service for client communication

Abstract

Enable secure, two-way communication between clients and companies using the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol to share Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as account numbers and balances. This will allow a virtual agent to handle PII information exchange securely with clients.
Problem: SMS is an inherently non-secure protocol. Companies are reluctant to use SMS for communication with clients because information is stored in telephony carriers’ systems, posing a risk of PII leakage. Despite the business demand for two-way communication between companies and clients, security concerns prevent these use cases from proceeding due to the risk of PII being leaked and stored outside of Vanguard.
Vision: Clients should be able to securely send and receive PII information to and from Vanguard, ensuring that all communication is 100% secure, with no fear of data-loss. Encryption keys used for this communication should be owned by Vanguard, ensuring that telephony carriers cannot decrypt the PII payloads sent via RCS.
Metrics:
i. Ensure all communication between clients and Vanguard is encrypted with Vanguard-owned keys.
ii. Implement 1-2 use cases where a virtual agent can securely answer client questions involving PII.
